Law Project 2.0

A few you may remember my law debacle from last April. If you don't, here's a refresher:
“However, causality was much more sophisticated and complex.”

“Even throughout the hot summer, the city remains to have the “boil the water” advisory.”

“In recent years water pollution has becoming a greater issue to deal with. Especially since businesses are pouring new chemicals which are developed by these industries into the water systems which are unregulated and the effects are unknown to a certain extend”

“Overall the pharmaceutical products have not no short term affects on humans but shown that they small animals.”

Well, it turns out one of the members from that group is in my 4th year design project. You might remember that he's from Windsor. He's simply a lazy writer.

This is what he sent me for our Letter of Intent (to be sent to the Dean of Env. Eng.):
I, XXX, 4th year Environmental Engineering student at the University of Windsor, have great interest in sewage treatment and design. During the past few years of my study, I have acquired many education backgrounds that can be implemented to design a sewer collection system for the Hamlet of Ruthven.

My revision:
XXX is in his fourth year of his undergraduate degree in Environmental Engineering at the University of Windsor. He has a strong interest in sewage treatment and design. During his time as an undergraduate, he has acquired a strong base of knowledge which he is eagerly waiting to apply to this project.

I'll be the first to admit that my writing isn't the greatest thing since chopped bread but I can't wait for what these next six months might entail.

Like Spinning Plates

Dirt is boring. I'm not taking exciting courses this semester but Hydrogeology has to be the most painful of them all. First there was Soil Mechanics, then Hydrology, now Hydrogeology. Rocks and aquitards. 100 year storms and piezometers. Dull, uninteresting crapple. 3 straight semesters of this. Bleh...All I can think of is our bodies floating down the muddy river. Except the muddy river is decreasing in depth to a cone of depression being formed by a nearby well that is being overused.

There has to be something more than this, something to combat the ever growing disillusionment and it's not just me. It eats away at us all. A picture may be worth a thousand words but the unspoken word is worth a million more

By the way, true love waits.

Only In Dreams

I'm tired. Very tired. And when I sleep, my dreams consist me of being unable to sleep. Dreaming about being an insomniac can't be healthy. It's as if, I'm walking around in a shell, existing without any thought for 22 hours of the day, preserving myself for those two hours every day where my thoughts are actually needed.

I'm anxious and on the edge, musical tastes prove to that. Homesick and desperate for "social" social contact. When sudden life changes occur you have to make due. Find a way to continue on in a new setting. The problem is always in the details, the little things you forgot about. There's a disturbing lack of juice around.

That DJ book I bought contained that nice little playlist that I've been abusing lately. I don't think it's too difficult to get the gist of it.

Untitled - Interpol
Transatlanticism - Death Cab For Cutie
Love Will Tear Us Apart - Joy Division
Fade Into You - Mazzy Star
Lovesong - The Cure
Inside Of Love - Nada Surf
Lost Cause - Beck
Out of Time - Blur
Strangler - Calla
Whatever Happens, I Love You - Morrissey
Never Tear Us Apart - INXS
Maps - Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Asleep - The Smiths
Something In The Way - Nirvana
Wait For Me - The Runaways
Gone - The Oohlas
Undercovers On - Rival Schools
My Sweet Prince - Placebo
As You Are - Travis
God Only Knows [Stereo Mix] - The Beach Boys
Lover's Spit - Broken Social Scene
When You Were Mine - Cyndi Lauper

My big toe isn't broken but I do have the disturbing ability to dislocate it without knowing it and then "popping" it back in. I'm not sure that this is something that I want to explore further.

And I haven't shaved yet. I'll find a camera shortly.

A Romantic Night Out

Valentine's Day. It is what it is which to say isn't much when you're four hours away. The highlight of my day was spending 7 1/2 hours in front of a computer in a computer lab working on assignments. Time flies when talking about groundwater gradients and having the Olympic website refreshing in the background, wondering why a North Korean male figure skater is competing in the Olympics. Pretty sure he finished last.

Celtic Guard Delonte West talking about a romantic dinner on his yacht.

Anything more to say, Delonte?

Delonte: "One more thing: When we're on the yacht eating, we're going to have some Popeyes chicken. That's for dinner. It's to let her know, put a mental image on her mind, first and foremost, if you ain't from the hood, you don't like Popeyes chicken. Everyone there loves Popeyes chicken and the biscuits -- phew. But that's just getting it on her mind, saying, you know, 'Yeah, I can wine and dine you, but I'm a little rough around the edges and I'm keeping it real with you. I can be romantic, but this is real, we're going to eat some chicken tonight. Chicken and biscuits.'"

This Little Piggy Got Run Over

Quick exam schedule:
Thursday
Saturday
Monday
Wednesday
Thursday

Super, isn't it?

I walked around all day thinking it was Valentine's Day. I didn't realize it was tomorrow until about 7:00 tonight. I'm such a romantic at heart, aren't I?

I haven't shaved in about ten days. I guess the homeless chic is back in.

And my big toe might be broken.

I Paid Your Mom's "Syntax"

It's that level of mental exhaustion that only hits when you're at school. When you come home at 6:00 after being on campus since 8:30 and you wonder how long you can function without any brain activity.

Everlong is one of those songs that you forget about. Well, that is until you hear it again and you remember why it's far and away the best thing the Foo Fighters have ever done.

I bought this book from the university bookstore. IT was cheap and it's got some interesting playlists in it. And it's well worth it for the Indie Dance Party mix.

It's alright to hate me if you want for my complete lack of creativity. Every ounce of my body seems to be consumed with numbers and formulas and the only place to hide from it all is the "music". I really need to go to a concert and just relax.

Maybe I should make an acoustic playlist...that'd be nice and soothing.

2 weeks until I'm back home again which makes it seem like my break is from February 24 - March 5.

The series finale of Arrested Development was on tonight and was possibly, the greatest finale in the history of the world. Tying together every conceivable plotline from the series into one tidy mess in only the way that AD could. But of course Fox put the last four episodes up against the opening ceremonies of the Olympics which equals ratings death. Oh well, there's still The Office.

Seven Months

I'm going to kill him.

What the fuck is this shit? Leaving me to hang like this.

Forget Coachella, forget the graduation trip, forget any lavish purchases.

Daydreaming is still free.

Shit Scheisse Merde

People said it could never be done. 40 Gigs of music on an iPod. Do you know how much music that is? Well, since I picked up 10 CDs for $20 this week, it's been done. By the way, thanks to campus radio, CJAM 91.5 for blowing out their CDs like that. I ended up picking up:

Lady Sovreign - Vertically Challenged EP
The American Analog Set - Set Free
Pearl Jam - Live at Benaroya Hall
Ladytron - Witching Hour
TV On The Radio - Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes
Royksopp - The Understanding
Controller.Controller - X-Amounts
Cuff The Duke - Cuff The Duke (w/ Cuff The Duke belt buckle)
The Deadly Snakes - Porcella
Sub Pop Sampler - Infecting The Galaxy One Planet At A Time
The Futureheads - Meantime (Single)

Pretty sweet for $20. Especially since a couple of those CDs cost more than that at your finer record establishments. That's assuming you can even find them at certain places.

Tomorrow night is the Engineers Without Borders wine and cheese. I couldn't figure out why they hoping to be done by 9:30 and hopefully cleaned up by 10:30. It's the overflow of Super Bowl tourists coming over the border for our Cuban Cigars and hookers. Supposedly Monday night was insane downtown. Busier than a normal Saturday. I'm afraid to go downtown, Americans running all over the place, full of beer and looking for sex. Good times here in the armpit of Canada.

Empire Polo Field

I can see it. Can you?

Now this year's lineup. Upon first seeing it, I was sort of disappointed, kind of underwhelmed. No decent headliner for Sahara on Saturday night, (Daft Punk has been added since), no sign of The Strokes, The White Stripes, Broken Social Scene or Death From Above 1979. All of which, I had heard some pretty strong rumours about. And whatever happened to the Smashing Pumpkins reunion. Coheed and Cambria?? WTF?

But looking at it now and taking it for who's actually there and the fact that Coheed and Cambria is no worse than Thrice who had a main stage spot last year, it's pretty good. This is who I'd love to see but obviously won't be able to see them all. And I'm disappointed in myself, for the lack of Sunday bands that I've even heard of.

Saturday, April 29th

Depeche Mode, Daft Punk, Franz Ferdinand, Sigur Ros, TV on the Radio, Ladytron, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Animal Collective, Devendra Banhart, She Wants Revenge, The Walkmen, The Juan Maclean, Imogen Heap, Lady Sovereign, Deerhoof, Eagles of Death Metal.

Sunday, April 30th

Tool, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Bloc Party, Sleater-Kinney, Wolf Parade, The Go! Team, Metric, Art Brut, The Dears, Mates of State, The Subways, Youth Group, Giant Drag.

Now I just need to swing some money and maybe a car. I wish I had money.

P.S. I actually went over the 40 Gb limit. So something had to go, before the Tegan & Sara and the other jank that was sitting around, I dumped the Fantomas. So sue me. It ain't for me.
