Red Rocket

I've had a pretty busy couple of weeks and I've got a grab bag full of good news to report. But I'm not going to talk about any of the personal news for now. For now, it's my new number one interest and number one timewaster. It's the TTC.

Part of it is the fact that it was an essential part of my life for eight years and it's something that I guess I didn't appreciate until I went to Windsor. Sweet merciful crap, taking the bus to get you anywhere in Windsor was not an option. So anyways since I've been back, I'm taken a very strong interest in:
a) Urban Development
b) Public Transit
c) Toronto History

all 3 of which tie nicely together with the TTC. So when the city announced last week their plans for "Transit City", I'm was pretty excited by the ideas presented. Especially after the boondoggle to York and Vaughan was announced the week prior that completely shafted the city. And finally some love for Scarborough.

If you're at all interested in these plans, there is an excellent breakdown by Steve Munro. In my mind, he is the authority on transit in the city having been involved with it from a public advocacy point of view for 35 years.

And in my mind that looks a lot better than this:
Yes, I'm still a huge nerd. (The CBC and Test the Nation think so as well.)

More personal news coming shortly...

EDIT: LRT Rendering via spacing.ca.

Define 'light rail'. If I recall correctly, I heard that the European company that created the RT no longer produces parts for the existing model.

This is going to be a completely different system than the Scarborough RT. As you can see in the picture I added, this version would run via already existing roads except for a couple of places where it'll run underground. It'll run down the middle of the street like a faster version of a streetcar.

As an aside, the RT is going to be junked after 2015. I don't think a decision has been made on what they're going to replace it with but it's not going to be a subway.

This one is definitely prettier!
